Archaeologist (Geophysics/Excavation)

This role will routinely involve the day to day management of a team of up to three other geophysical surveyors. The successful candidate will be responsible for on-site client liaison, grid establishment and data collection including the monitoring of data quality. Data processing, ACAD illustration and report writing will be undertaken under the supervision of the Project Archaeologist (Geophysics).
The successful candidate will have an understanding of the theory behind archaeological geophysical surveys, preferably with a post-graduate qualification, and will ideally have a minimum of one years field experience (including data processing and interpretation) of undertaking gradiometer surveys using FM256 and Grad601-2 instruments and earth resistance surveys using RM15 instruments. Additionally it would be advantageous to have had experience of producing grey literature reports and a basic understanding of ACAD. Experience of total station survey and/or dGPS survey, magnetic scanning and magnetic susceptibility surveys would also be useful. Membership of the Institute for Archaeologists at Associate level and CSCS accreditation is preferred. The successful candidate will primarily be based in the geophysical survey team but some involvement in other aspects of archaeological fieldwork is to be expected.

 

Archaeological Site Assistant (Geophysics)
Vacancy Reference WYJS:040, Salary £15725 - £16830
The second vacancy is for an Archaeological Site Assistant (Geophysics). The post will primarily be with the geophysical survey teams but on occasion will involve archaeological fieldwork at Site Assistant level so experience of commercial field archaeology is expected.
The post will involve data collection using both Bartington and Geoscan gradiometers and will be under the direct supervision of the Archaeologist (Geophysics/Excavation) or the Project Archaeologist (Geophysics). The post holder will be expected to monitor their own data quality and be able to work with minimal supervision. A minimum of 6 months experience of carrying out gradiometer surveys using FM256 and Grad601-2 instruments would be preferable and some experience of data processing using Geoplot software would be advantageous. In addition some knowledge of ACAD, experience of total station survey and/or dGPS survey, magnetic scanning and/or magnetic susceptibility surveys would be useful. Membership of the Institute for Archaeologists at Practitioner level and CSCS accreditation is preferred. The successful candidate will have an adaptable approach to work and have the ability to work as part of a team.
